cyberbullying: your rights and responsibilities

Understand the causes and impacts of online bullying behaviours, and what to do about it 

Free online learning about cyberbullying for teens

Recommended for all high school year levels. Maximum 50 students per session.

Students will learn:

  • what are online bullying behaviours  
  • how to challenge attitudes that foster online bullying  
  • myths and facts of cyberbullying causes and effects 
  • mental health impacts of cyberbullying 
  • the rights every young person has online, as well as their responsibilities to others
  • protective behaviours for dealing with cyberbullying 

Optional alternatives:

  • effective help-seeking as a key protective factor to online safety
  • safe bystander ('upstander') behaviour online
  • how to have positive online interactions 
  • conflict management with empathy, assertiveness, and impulse control

Introduction (5 mins):

  • Interactive ice-breaker
  • Brief summary of Kids Helpline

Presentation (30 mins)

  • Presentation of key content in your chosen topic/session, including coping strategies & support options
  • Interactive learning activities (group work, video watching, games, role playing, etc.)
  • Practical application of key strategies
  • Movement/interactive breaks included as needed

Conclusion (5-10 mins)

  • Summary of session
  • Group reflection
